Honestly, I love teaching leadership and communication to inventive students in MBA and Masters Interaction Design at California College of the Arts.
As the group tests out & makes each of the course communication frameworks their own, a culture gels. Signals, short-hands & storms unique to them arise -this is the energizing alchemy keeping us on our toes.
Our semester project is not to dance around, but to recognize, then trouble shoot, the communication wobbles naturally arising when people of conviction coordinate. Engaging in our new model for generative leadership, each individual tries on new-for-them ways of behaving. We discover no one is perfect.
Given our future facing bent, one day in class I thought naming what the group was no longer willing to tolerate would be helpful. The students spontaneously formed small groups focusing on different categories. We spent 15 minutes, if that, on this rapid fire, no-frills exercise. Identify what bugs, annoys, depletes energy, gets in your way. What are you so over? In clearng the air of what you’re done with, your next-up good/better/best has a much better chance of coming into clear view.

Returning to your priorities, no matter what else is going on, is a high value habit nowadays.
